The Study Program

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Oral Implantology at the University of Zurich is a three-year, part-time program for dentists who want to deepen their expertise in implant dentistry. On-site block weeks in Zurich, weekly hybrid seminars and online case discussions in small groups are designed to fit around your clinical work – and to feed directly back into it.

Why oral implantology

Successful implant treatment depends on the whole chain, from diagnostics and planning to surgery, regeneration, prosthetic restoration and long-term maintenance. That makes it a truly interdisciplinary field, closely connected to reconstructive dentistry, periodontology and oral surgery.

What you will learn

You will gain theoretical and hands-on expertise in implantology, reconstructive dentistry and related disciplines. Lectures and literature seminars build the evidence base; workshops and cases from your own practice put it into action.

The program is built around six topic blocks. Each one combines practical workshops, case presentations, lectures and literature seminars:

• Fully edentulous patients
• Partially edentulous patients – posterior zone
• Partially edentulous patients – anterior zone I
• Partially edentulous patients – anterior zone II
• Battle of concepts: contrasting approaches in implant dentistry
• Maintenance and alternatives: prevention and management of peri-implant diseases

Alongside the topic blocks, a continuous module series covers the fundamentals of scientific work, including statistics and protocol development.
 

Each year combines four core elements

• Two on-site block weeks in Zurich (February and August) with lectures, hands-on workshops and live surgeries.
• Weekly lectures and literature discussions every Monday during the semester, 4–6 pm (Zurich time). You can join on site or online, all sessions will be recorded.
• Online case discussions in small groups, led by one of our faculty members
• One international congress per year

Over the three years, you also document six clinical cases and complete a master’s thesis (e.g. participation in a clinical or preclinical study, review paper or case report).

Because participants from all three years meet during the block weeks, you learn alongside colleagues at every stage of the program – and build a professional network that lasts beyond it.
